A thousand Hail Marys

A thousand Hail Marys

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

A thousand Hail Marys

It’s hard

letting you go

before the cherry blossoms

are in bloom,

before winter

has turned to spring.

You’ve left me to grieve

oceans away,

with no  sabbatical to heal me

no calm to compose me.

I wrestled with God

through all his infinite wisdom

believing that perhaps

he made a mistake…

for there’s nothing I wouldn’t do

to bear witness to an archangel,

to atone through  a thousand Hail Marys’

for one more lifetime

with you.

You have given me all I could ask for in a review, and I thank you!
The emotions come through strong. The sadness is evident and the fact that distance stepped between makes the loss harder. It gets no easier as we get older. A fitting tribute, Kelly

Thank you for the kindness of your words, Gullia!
a very sad write i felt the the despair and loneliness and not being a religious person i would have had bloody mary's instead just not that many. the photo really sets the tone to this write, remembering the times together.

Thank you, Andrew. It's the thought that counts!
This is excellent. It's like you opened your heart up with a key and took out all the appropriate words to describe your feelings.

...thank you. I was hoping to make him proud!
Beautiful sorrow beautifully penned. The only thing worse than losing love is to never have tasted it. I like your words. I.I.

Ah..... there are literally no words. It is wrong to review such heartfelt rainings of the soul. It is only fit to say here we are. Can we do anything? Knowing whatever will be woefully inadequate. We can only say, we know. And we do.

The words are stuck in my throat - just throbbing there. Thank you so much, Ken.
emotive to the soul ...terrible to loose someone held so close and dear; but more difficult if the survivor can not be present physically ... :( so sad my friend! well said!
