Redefining Nature

Redefining Nature

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

Redefining Nature

One by one

they fall

with diaphanous clarity,

leaving no footprints

as they go

redefining nature

as we know.

I wrote a haiku poem called "Rain in Slow Motion", and I photographed rain falling on my window screen at sunset to illustrate the poem. You've done something similar here. I love the poem and the photo. Here in the desert, one good rain can turn our sand green, redefining nature. I love the one rhyme you always seem to give us; it's so satisfying!

To me this is a statement about how we're losing so many precious species due to our bad stewardship of the planet, so to me this is a sad & poignant observation. One of the most poetic things ever said about this topic. Incredible use of words & sounds & imagery! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I can feel the nostalgia behind this lovely poem. I grew up in Minnesota and snow was plentiful. Every now and then I wish I could wake up to a blanket of it but the memories remain. Love this piece!

dear Kelly ... you leave notes in the Winter of my heart that plays like a Globe with falling snow. Remember Frank Sinatra singing "Softly as I leave you". Snow birds leave the sweetest prints... truly, Pat

Brevity in a poem is a delicate, purposeful razor that few poets can balance and not shed blood. No stitches needed here.
