A Birthday Tribute to Keats

A Birthday Tribute to Keats

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

~

Oft times

I am forever bruised

I bleed muted words.

They leap in bounds

within my throat

spilling from eyes

that well with tears,

seas of salted bitterness

in vast moonlight.

Wonderful use of words dear Kelly. I believe Keats would like. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

Such a fine tribute Kelly! Tears, like muted words, filling seas, silent in the vast moonlight. I’m going to read Keats today. Thank you for introducing him with this gem.

You’re most welcome Kelly!
Great and accurate tribute. One of the more prolific poets for sure with a penchant for taking the beautiful things and dipping them in 24 karat gold to make them shine even brighter. A fitting note to your own fanny Brawne.

I'd like to think so, Pete...many thanks, my friend.
Straight from the off, with the simple use of "oft times", we are transprted into another era, where subtleness could have a more devastating impact than any hollywood epic could throw at us.
In my mind, words read, that I hear in soft, sombre voice, always makes me pause, taking my time to feel each line and be transported to the writers thoughts...which you have done so wonderfully here.
I also remembered someone else through the Keats connection. Dolores O'riordon, the cranberries vocalist who sadly passed away thid year. She was such an avid fan of Keats, that it only made sense for me to read his work, what with being such a fan of hers. Funny how one thing leads to another :)

As you know I am also a huge fan of Keats and have visited Keats House several times. Your lines are a fine tribute to him Kelly. Your language has been chosen with much care to reflect the period he penned his work. Amazing what he produced in such a short life.

I have read many poets over the years and though I own "Bright Star", for some reason, and perhaps this was what I was waiting for, I have not dwelled too deeply into Keats. And yes..shame on me. This poem is a mid-nineteenth century gas lamp flickering under an autumn night, hovering over hooves, stagecoach and cobblestone..a late fog drifting to a silent sea ..in other words it beckons and rolls oh so smoothly. I have a passion for the older romantic language so I find myself compelled to visit his poems. So there you have it, you have inspired me, the ultimate compliment for the poet and the poem. Thank you~
