Like China

Like China

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

 Like China

He talks to me of business
in the hurried moments

of a cellular conversation,
tells me without fail

how much he misses

the warmth of my body

against him

and how much I would love

the Nebraska snow.

My voice cracks at the mention
of sleeping alone,
with a northeast wind
that rattles the shutters at night
coercing me into

a fetal position.

I listen for the exhale of a sigh.

It is the tenor of his voice

that breaks me,
like china.

I'll take that! Thank you most kindly, Tom!
There are so many moods, emotions, colours to your poem, Kelly. Seems you've gathered up everything familiar about loving and being loved and - created a triptych : the sharing of the every day, gentle love and need, the eager exchange of true passion. Your words seem to grow from contained whispers to speeding echos around all points of the compass!! Sigh!! (Beautiful painting.)

My dear Emma, thank you for the love your words bring me today. x
Seeing as you mentioned in the comments below that it wasn't meant for anyone, but it certainly is very real for me...esp your expression '...like china', a thousand times more and in more than a million pieces...sometimes its just easier letting that voice wash over onself though.
Lovely write, Kelly. And I love that painting you used, having used it in one of my previous pieces too! :D

This is absolutely beautiful. I love the sensual message over the sexual message here. It's humble but warm to the touch, and humble.
