August

August

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

August

It was August
and summer

was thick in the air,

like the concentrated efforts
of a trapeze artist.

Hey there Kelly, love those August days so thick you need a knife to cut through them, either that or a swimming pool... ;0) but then we have your poem bring us the summer's heat yet feels like a cold drink of lemonade as I read it... nicely done Kelly

August has been a funny one up here in the great white north, all is green and lush thanks to all the rain we've had which sadly has robbed us of what little summer we get. Great write as always!

A warm hello to you in beautiful Canada, Dave! I cannot take credit for the photo, but I thank you .. read more
The “act” is difficult to maintain, Kelly. We’re not natural trapeze artists. The height and visibility and public stunts bring a warm rush and a discomfort... maybe somewhat like some summer. Truly love this one and the image.

It's so good having your presence here. Thank you, Robert.
The humidity here in South Florida is so thick....even a trapeze artist would not be able to navigate it. As is always the case, you say so much with such brevity....truly artistic. Love that graphic you chose to accompany your words. Enjoy the rest of August! Lydi**

Thank you most kindly, Kay!
dear Kelly.... only you could define August so beautifully...
I think of the song ..."the daring young man on the flying trapeze...
he flies through the air with the greatest of ease". Every day in August
requires a special way to dress as Cool as cucumbers and warm as honey
tea with Ice in the shade of an Apple tree. Yes, we do need to concentrate
on drinking water and playing in the water by the Coastal sand and pretty shells
that beckon our return. trapeze Artist would know how to fly with or against the wind.
truly, Pat

You painted that picture perfectly Kelly. I remember feeling that cloying heat on vacation a few times, when it seems you are walking through syrup.
But I am more used to our August's. This one in particular has been damp and driech, even more than usual. I swear I'm beginning to get webbed feat.
Love the picture too, a perfectly captured moment, just like your words 😀

Lovely poem.

Oooo… wouldn't you just loathe to be doing something that strenuous in August's sweltering heat?
