Whale Whispering

Whale Whispering

A Poem by Neville

Whale Whispering

Although both the wind and waves

Are now each calling

Whether or not you take note of

The very rapture of my porpoises

And whales

Today out yonder

As they do idle, make love and play

Beyond the bluff

Then mount and ride proud

Upon the summit, peak and brow of

Innocent tsunamis

All that now means nothing

Since they are far too busy pleasuring

To notice

And would they even care

I dare think not

Although I watch alone and

From a certain distance

Come watch them too

If you so choose and please

As they crash, pose, weave and wave

By any yardstick perfect

Thunderous they are my friend

Those flying porpoises and whales

Who leap only for the joy of leaping and

Some innate drive to cruise alongside

The likes of lone

Kittiwake, albatross and petrol

See how through clouds and waves and storms

They all did appear

Then vanish down mid

Saline spray and foam to briefly surface

And to dance in dappled sunlight

Before disappearing with a mighty wave

And slip below an beyond the

Deepest and the darkest depths of

Shameless and Shadowless oceans

To where the whale whisperer was calling

I am very taken with this on two levels... the first being what is seen. I want to go to Alaska an see the whales from a ship maybe..up close and personal. We have a pink dolphin here and I love when I see her. She swims with a companion and they are magical...but now for the nitty gritty and let my other level flow in and let me tell you of the dark beauty I feel here within your words. I find myself lost in the darkness that the water can bring. Where there are only whispers and whale calls in the depths. The final resting for so much forgotten...unnoticed...given without gifted. It's miraculous and mysterious!

You are far too generous, but believe me, I like the sentiments you have left here and they much app.. read more
A very visual write Neville. You took your readers to the coastline to see these beautiful sea animals at play. And a beautiful sight it was too. Wind, waves and movement, very graceful movement, surfacing and then diving into the depths. All with the sun shining on the dappled waters. Dappled is a lovely word by the way. Very nicely done, and different from your normal poetry. I like what you have done here.

I am quite made up with your impression of these somewhat salty words Chris.......Ta Neville
This is one of your best that I’ve read so far, especially becuz of your abundant use of dynamic imagery, which I love. As a coast dweller all my life, I’ve had an attachment to whales & other sea life, always wishing I could write a poem to convey my adoration of this wet bunch of cuties out there. But you’ve gone & done it . . . the thing I most wanted to do . . . you brought everything alive with words! *yippee!* I especially love your keen insight as far as imagining how the whales might view us (or not!) *smile* Fondly, Margie

In this I should say that we share our love and reverence for whales ... and yet I see something shimmering under the surface ... life passes us by sometimes, while we watch.

The sea. Places, where men dream and pretty ladies dance. You wrote the truth in your words. The sea animals. A blessing to see in their natural home. I wish we protected the sea and the lakes. Thank you my friend for sharing the amazing poetry.
