Some Days Past

Some Days Past

A Poem by Neville

Some Days Past

Laying here

Smelling of some days past

But only good one’s mind

Something caught his eye

Then light

Became golden

And a blur occurred

Followed by a garden

Or a meadow maybe

Something precious

So many greens

Untrue and frozen

An old bridge

The same one it seems

Still straddles ancient leat

Beyond the distant weir

Where minnows dart

And salmon leap

With both palms pressed

To forehead imagining

I imagine you mind wandering. Travelling in a quiet moment back in time. Trying hard to focus on detail which fades with the passing of years Trying to recapture a special moment and all the essence of it. Sight, sounds and smell. Reliving the moment. I do that too. Visual and well conveyed. Nicely expressed Neville.

In your usual unique way, you capture how the reminiscing mind skips over pleasant imagery like a rock skipping the surface of water. Great details & disjointed sensation, as life feels more & more like an indistinguishable mass of memories! (((SHRUGS))) Fondly Margie

Ta BG another much appreciated visit and true NUGs fondly N :)
Lovely poem. Made me think back to the day I smelled my Dad's pipe, knowing that he's still watching over me from above. That same day I smelled the scent of cut grass coming through the air vents of my car and suddenly I was back home in the back yard, swinging and singing while my Dad cut the grass. Then at dinner, one of daughters started talking about something she had remembered about her PaPa (My Dad) and all of it came back again. I really miss my Dad, even now, twenty-three years later. Some memories are clear as a bell and some are a blur.

oh my ... at your abstract best says i! i feel an internal struggle .. much as when dementia is whispering but not in control ... seems a disjointed story ..but it isn't ..the thread of a life ... of memories ... and recollection ... i was going to point out which couplets leap out at me .. but .. they are all so inspiring .. creative .. and paint such a picture in me nog .. nice work sir ... thoroughly enjoyed knocking on me own imaginations ..

Lovely piece with a beautiful description. Really liked the use of salmon and old bridge. The last lines are really the soul to the wonderful piece. Already read it 3 times :)

The images of our lives our mind falls into in those quieter moments, so wonderfully expressed, unlike my own, which are more akin to a psychedelic mind enema that leaves me wondering if we truly are in a mars venus virtual unreality.
