The official manual on cross infection makes me think of our health workers who bravely battle on, on the front lines, dealing with all and sundry while miss Covid does her worse. Anyone with a positive diagnosis will be apprehensive and fear what the future could hold for themselves or those that live with them, their nearest and dearest. For most it will mean recovery, but for some it will mean premature death. That is devastating. I am now thinking sadly of that vast number of 44,000 plus in the UK and the half million lives worldwide who did not live to see the rainbow. Sobering poetry Neville.

Funny how those little coughs we never gave a second thought to come do dominate our lives so completely in so many different ways, be we old or young. Who knows what final thoughts n visions may have passed through the minds of those 44,000 deceased. A good few may well have seen a few rainbows. I hope so. You put your finger on how things are - as always.
As always, such a fine and sensitive write. Close to home for a great many readers. So many, too many poor gits. And poor's the word: whilst everything's opening its arms to the economic crisis, tears seem to be cheaper than cheap as the numbers fly even higher this morning. There'll be only pillars of salt at the foot of rainbows from now on.

A poem of our times here. The subject of the work is not named, but he seems like an average person trying to make his way through the plague. Then the cough started and progressed. It sounds as though his passing was quick, unlike others. But tell me, what is a git?

Git is a term of insult with origins in English denoting an unpleasant, silly, incompetent, annoying, senile, elderly or childish person. As a mild oath it is roughly on a par with prat and marginally less pejorative than berk. Typically a good-natured admonition with a strong implication of familiarity ...

Thanks, Neville. As it turns out, I have known a lot of gits, prats and berks. They're everywhere.
Poor man...I feel so sorry for him and all others who died by this pestilence. Death is inevitable but to die so unceremoniously...!. All organs in perfect condition and probably long years of good health ahead of him. And then this bloody virus struck. I feel such a rage burning within me. China....

Well, Neville, I guess if that how it ends, at least I'll see a rainbow. I can think of many worse things. I'll admit I had to look up "git." It's not commonly used in the USA. Oxford says a "git" is "an unpleasant or contemptible person (e.g. "that mean old git"). If that's the case here, maybe he got more than he should have.
So much sadness here in the USA. The COVID-19 cases and deaths continue to rise, and you'd think it's party time if you see all the people out and about, not wearing masks or keeping their distance. It appears enough are convinced the US economy is more important than the lives of the elderly and those suffering other medical conditions. A timely poem. At least the rainbow brings something bright and colorful. Right?
