The Science of Passing the Buck

The Science of Passing the Buck

The Science of Passing the Buck

Come on, I dare you,

blame it

on Covid, or the war

in Ukraine

or maybe, on Brexit

or the weather

for f**k sake ..

Just say it’s too risky

and no one

will notice, or question

the truth

of the matter or care

either way ..

And heaven forbid,

if they did

you could sue them ..

But whatever

the case, deny any guilt

and don’t delay

in pointing the finger ..

At some other

poor b*****d, as soon as

you can mate ..

Author's Note

Neville
the tendency to point the finger and pass the buck rather than accepting blame when blame is clearly due really pisses me off, as does the increasingly common litigation culture that is gripping the so-called civilised world ..

Yes, there are so many convenient things to blame almost everything on these days! Convenient excuses for price rises, delivery delays, mortgage hikes and rent increases... and politicians are having a field day pointing the finger! On a personal note, a holiday that my wife and I had to cancel, due to my wife's illness and hospitalisation (after we'd paid for the holiday) took several months of wrangling, and reams of paperwork before they finally gave us a refund - minus the deposit. The company blamed Covid, saying they had staff off sick, and so many Covid claims to deal with! Yep, they've got the science of passing the buck down to a T! A social commentary type of poem, and a very apt one, if I may so so, Nev!

Hate is a pretty powerful thing. As history is proving not just in these days but the past as well. An uneducated society is much more pliable towards manipulation. Propaganda seems to find a home in the least curious of souls. Unfortunately now a days we have a lot of dumb people who are morally challenged to say the least that fall into this category. Especially here in the US.

The tendency to pass the buck? Now there's a soft sell of a statement :)) It's a pandemic even Covid has to be jealous of. But I think I have a slightly different view of the litigation angle. The snakes in robes (for my UK friends to smile) are not the problem as much as the growing problem worldwide of peeps believing there should be no consequences for their actions. The greatest two examples at the moment would be the lawsuits and judgments against Alex Jones, and the whole election of 2020 aftermath. Jones trafficked in the pain and misery of others believing he could not/should not be held accountable. DJP and his acolytes took the cult of narcissism to an entirely different planet and back thinking their right to slander and such is free of consequences. These are the biggies, but throughout our society people behave as if wronging others is simply life. Don't seek redress they say, just suck it up and move on. So yes, I agree Nev, as you so rightly put it, stop passing the buck and accept your fault when it lies in your corner, but if when one isn't willing to do that, then the need for litigation.

Great poem by the way: on Brexit or the weather...had me smiling big time. weather is always to blame

Blimey Neville, when I read this posting the first and second time, , it had a decidedly political flavour to it, because Brexit, the weather, covid and Ukraine are all used as excuses by politicians for their failures. Then I read it a third time and it took on a whole new meaning. That's why I love poetry so much. You can get several possibilities in one poem. Like a special deal in a supermarket. And don't talk to me about litigation culture. It is vile and makes a lot of greedy lawyers very wealthy. Starts in the USA and then crosses over the pond to our little island. Your writes are often layered cos you are very clever with words. You can also say it as it is on the tin and don't beat about the bush. You may be feeling rough at the moment, but it certainly hasn't hurt your writing. Get better soon.

It really does depend on which side of the pond you live. If you are a brit, then it's the weather, man. If you're Americanese, it's much simpler put down to any man! 😊
