A Sonnet for Shirin

A Sonnet for Shirin

A Poem by Nima.Hope
"

From Farhad to Princess Shirin

"
My love for you, O Princess, knows no bounds
You are the fairest lady in the land
Your beauty and your grace astound and wound
My heart that beats for you and your demand

But look, a rival comes to claim your hand
The wicked Khosrow, with his lies and schemes
He does not love you, he has other plans
To take your throne and shatter all your dreams

But fear not, Princess, for I have a plan
To challenge him and prove my worth to you
I am Farhad, the righteous man
Who fights for truth and justice and for you

So let me be your champion today
And I will win your heart and make you stay

Farhad and Shirin were Persian Romeo and Juliet. Farhad couldn't marry Shirin becasue she at last married Khosrow, The famous Persian King. Khosrow said he would let Farhad marry Shirin if he could rift the mountain of Bistoon(which is now in Iran in Kermanshah).Farhad did rift the mountain and when he finished it, Shirin died.

Nice try Nima. Wouldn't want to waste a verse now would we? I like history and poetry about it besides understanding the history behind some of this poem.

I'm not going to tear this apart unless you want me to. I'm glad you gave it some effort. Message me if you really want to know.

Lovely to learn of the Persian Romeo and Juliet… It is a Dream to have our Countries share our Art and Artists … I especially like the Artist “Train” who wrote a Song “Jupiter in her Hair” written for his Mother who had passed. There is a Wonderful Video on Google that includes Train singing … accompanied by a Piano and Violin Music 🎶 in a very large Room .. dancing and singing on an Oriental Rug. Be still my 💜 Heart. softly, Pat

Probably it's the mix of Farhad's character that has been the highlight of the piece. Righteous, chivalrous, brave, romantic, and whatnot - who wouldn't fall in love with him? I really love the little story, and as it had an incomplete end, leaving us to create our own conclusion, I thought maybe he managed to end the chapter of Khosrow and start a beautiful story with the Princess until I read your note. I didn't know the story of Farhad and Shirin, so it made me pretty sad. Anyway, it was beautifully expressed

Your poem is a romantic and dramatic declaration of love, with a clear storyline and well-crafted imagery. The use of rhyme and meter creates a sense of rhythm and flow, while the repetition of the Princess's beauty and the speaker's devotion adds a sense of urgency and passion. The introduction of a rival and the speaker's desire to prove his worth adds a layer of tension and conflict to the poem, while the speaker's determination and courage make him a compelling protagonist. Overall, your poem is a beautiful tribute to love and the lengths people will go to defend it. Great job!
