A Chapter by A.Albanese

Unedited, terribly horrid version of the beginning. Obviously not done

Every winter, the few geese that are left still migrate to the south. After all this time, and everything that's happened to us, some things just never change.

The geese don't stick around cause it's too cold. Why would ANYONE want to stick around here anyways? You come visit, laugh at how sad it is, and then you leave. You don't stick around.

I saw one fly past the broken window beside me in my Time Studies class. There’s about 8 of us, and we’re a tight group of friends. It’s been so long since I've seen the sun, but it thankfully decided to come out of the clouds today, and say hello to us survivors. An ugly, gray haze usually lingered in the air for some reason, but the sun swept it away. It felt nice to have its rays rest on the surface my skin, it was literally the brightest part of my week. “Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah,” Said my teacher. Every word that’s ever stumbled out of his mouth was pure bullshit. Ever since our government fell, we could just walk out of class and never show up again, but the reason why I’m here, unlike hundreds of kids who left, is because  I need to get out of here. How odd does that sound? What I’m trying to do, is find a way to travel into the future- where I can get away from this hell they call Earth.

BRRINNGG! Everyone ran out the door that still hung on one hinge.“That is your homework for today, please come again!” Mr. Ghib yelled into the halls. He sighed. I never really noticed how ugly this school is. The blackboard is really gray, there’s holes in the pale red brick pattern, the chairs and desks are half broken and scattered around the room...and I never noticed. “Is there  something you need, Ivy?” He said, startling me. “Oh no, sir, I was just thinking. Bye!” I said as I jogged away. Little did I know, that would be the last time I’d speak with him.

I gently hopped up the creaky, old stairs up to my room. My roommates and I haven't really decorated our home, but we did make the door look nice. On the front, we put pictures of 4 Disney Princesses- they were popular in the 1990’s, I think. We had Belle to represent me, Snow white for Yari, Ariel for Byrd, and Myka as Cinderella. I have long, thick and slightly wavy brown hair. I have very pale, imperfect skin and a few freckles across my cheeks. Yari has cute, short black hair and she has porcelain skin. Her body is very long and slender with pretty little piano fingers and smooth shoulders. Her mutation is a common one, she can shape shift. Byrd is very unique, she has fiery red-orange hair that she keeps on the top of her head in a messy bun, and drowns in her freckles. Her mutation allows her to make doubles of herself. Then there’s Myka, she wears her blonde hair in a ponytail every day, and she can breathe underwater. I never got along with Myka, she always rubs her ability in my face.

I knocked loudly on the door. “Hey Ivy!” Myka said as she opened the door. I gave a fake smile and walked in to head pounding music. “Like the new lights?” Byrd asked. I looked over at my bed. It had beautiful, yellow, star shaped LED lights all around and a big Star Wars poster. My bed was perfectly made, and the lights made my perfectly white bed look so pure and pretty. “Say something!” Byrd said. She hopped onto my bed and grabbed my hands. I stood on the bed with her and she showed me all the little detail of the poster. “We know you love ancient things, so we thought this would be a nice present,” She said with a wink.  I genuinely laughed and hugged her so tight, I could of cut off her circulation. No matter what happens in this world, there’s one thing and one thing only that matters; and that’s love. Whether its family love or friend love, love makes the world go round. It breathes life into everything and keeps us going.

I like how you began.
This has the taste of an excerpt and the taste if an introduction. I think you need to write more. Just keep on writing. Your writing is interesting to read. But, i'm afraid at this point, it tells no story.
Don't worry though. Keep on writing. I'd like to see how this story develops.
