OH MORIBUND AND GROSS DELIGHT

A THING called FEAR dropped in last night
And wound about my heart so tight.
HE held me captive lying there,
Without a hope of answered prayer!

A THING called GRIEF crept in tonight
And bid my soul..."Give up your fight!"
HE stalked those retched creaking stairs,
And seethed the words to hiss..."BEWARE!"

A SOMBER THING spit forth my plight
Into the air with which to smite
HIS helpless captive whimp'ring there
And held me fast in mute despair!

Oh moribund and gross delight
Of darkness with your hand of fright.
Creep up my spine...I do not care.
For death shall be my answered prayer!

Oh, Miss Sharon,
This is very good. It’s the adult version of monsters in the closet! Your poem reminds me in its creepiness of this one that has stuck with me from the movie, “Identity.” (I assume it’s original with the screenwriter, but I don’t know.):
“As I was going up the stair
I met a man who wasn’t there.
He wasn’t there again today.
I wish, I wish he’d go away.”

Oh Miss Sharon, I do love your style of writing! Fear creeping in is scary! We too often give in to fear instead of fighting fear with faith! The flow was so awesome!

Always my pleasure!
When we “shuffle off this Mortal Coil” … Shakespeare said it to remind us that Life is full of Fear… and yet, we linger and write Poetry.
Very well expressed, tenderly, Pat

Thank you Pat for your kind remarks on this write! ~Sharon
This one did show the sort of helplessness and creeping terror that some of EAP's characters manifested. I was reminded of both "The Premature Burial" and "The Telltale heart." Of course, fear and grief and any other negative emotions can cause anyone to become unstrung. The best course is to drop resistance to them and focus on their positive counterparts.
