Monster of My Mind

Monster of My Mind

A Poem by Willow Robertson
"

Sometimes the scariest monster is yourself.

"
I watch the clouds block out the moon
And leave the world in endless midnight
As one by one the stars wink out
Leaving me alone with my thoughts
The empty house creaks and groans
And shadows flash in corners
The lights don't work,
The doors won't close
And I'm left with my thoughts
That have me seeing monsters
And ghosts in reflections
And I lay quietly
Eyes shut tight
Blankets pulled up
In hopes that will protect me
But the monster of my mind
Is not bothered by such physical, trivial
Protections against fear
And as I am lulled to sleep it takes over
So I dream of fear and anger
And leave all hope behind
And venture into the blackest night
Where only misery is to find

I really enjoyed reading your poem. The mind can be a monster. It can take you to the scariest places, trapped no way out surrendering to the fear. Keep writing. Well written.
