Sand Paper Rope

Sand Paper Rope

A Poem by AiH

Sometimes hanging on does more damage then letting go
Because the rope you cling to rips your skin apart
Burning your palms and fingertips
Exposing your milk colored bones to the air

The stinging sensation you feel when alcohol glides over the lacerations on your body will pass and heal
It's better than rubbing your hands on razor blades with a pretty face for fear of being alone

You'll be relieved
when one day you look down and see your fingers no longer bleed under someone else's
Because they aren't pulling you against the sand paper rope like everyone else

Your wounds have healed into scar tissue
They no longer burn against the running water

By letting go
you allow yourself to heal

By removing what causes you pain
You allow yourself to be set free
