The New Stone Age

The New Stone Age

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

What have we done?

"

The New Stone Age

The warmth of amber

hangs among the clouds

as nature's anger

denies us summer's promise.

The fracture of the seasons,

that we once surely knew,

heralds a change of climate

which makes our blood run

in petrified floes of ice.

We mourn this passing

with frozen glances

and stand still,

rooted to the spot.

And now,

too late,

we earth bound creatures

cannot resist

for powerless in our own domain

is what we are.

Yet tis we who raped

this planet's wealth,

tore its very core asunder

and plagued her skies

with choking gas.

So tis we who must accept the dice,

as cast by gods,

and set our sail accordingly,

or choose to be once more

cave dwelling hermits

returned to Neolithic roots.

I feel your thoughts as we go from the stone age and due to our neglect of your world we are headed back. I cannot argue with that idea. Nice work. Thanks,

Damn John - what an opening gambit. Warmth of amber in the clouds. Epic.
Reap what ye sow. It could be already too late - huge ice shelves are dropping off raising the sea levels and throwing the whole balanced system into turmoil. Interesting times.
well written my friend.

We would always reap the fruit of our labors whether they are good or bad.. i loved that first part of the poem. It felt as if i was transported into a place where nature always wins.
