Neglected Earth

Neglected Earth

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

We reap what we sow!

"

Neglected Earth

Your garden is untended,

the grass needs mown;

all the bushes and plants

run wild,

spilling across one another,

intertwining in an attempt

at supremacy and survival.

Your trees need lopping

for they block out the light

that brings life,

as they climb to the sun

in Darwinian devilment,

oblivious to the life

of their companion species.

Moss and weeds clog the crevices

between the block paving,

and the lawn extends it's grasping

fingers across the path

until there is little definition

between those once

carefully cultivated compartments.

What has happened to the gardener

who once had careful hands?

We need to nurture our love for it to flourish .
Sometime people take it for granted and it becomes over grown with weeds!
Brilliant John!

Exactly Sereena, many thanks.
My California is in a severe drought, with heavy water restrictions and fines to be paid, if not complied.

"What has happened to the gardener
who once had careful hands?"

What was once ever plentiful, is now a commodity we are struggling to save. Every day there are more "moss and weeds"...choking the life of our landscapes.

Powerful words that resonate, John.

I totally agree, John!
So many levels in this one my friend. Earth and earth (dirt) and 'salt of the earth' (our kith and kin) - one could spend many profitable (for the soul) - moments in this.

Thank you for such kindness Aaron.
this feels so much like allegory...the garden is love...and it needs work to keep it replenishing...and to get rid of the weeds that can choke it...destroy it.

tended with care...by both parties...it is watered with devotion that can't miss having it flourish.

Thank you Willard. Nice to see you.
There is nothing sadder than an untended garden... gardens require a nurturing hand to prevent the weeds from suffocating the soil; to trim the trees, allowing sunlight to penetrate; and to feed the plants water and tender loving care... sometimes the gardener loses interest in the garden or perhaps loses interest in himself... i like this piece, John, and where it can take us...
