Writing To Survive

Writing To Survive

Do we write because we must to stay in the circle?

Writing To Survive

I become stuck to the fly screen

of the digital age,

where the swarms of poets words

become ensnared

in the thick sticky dregs

of creation.

Stimulated by the warmth of adulation,

offered in platitude portions,

they slowly slide in fatty globules

down my monitor.

As I stare,

rabbit in the headlights,

fixated by the honey

and bile and spittle and rain

dripping from pens of many shades,

I trace letters in the residue

trying to keep my fingers clean.

But even my keyboard

is swamped with worn letters,

washed with the tears

of passion's dirty laundry,

as my washing machine

lies idle.

A thought provoking write John! Who would have thought!. An interesting topic, I write because I like to write and to share, entertain, a hobby of sorts that exercises the mind as well. and if I have a following and receive feedback that's great but even more important I've formed friendships which I would not have had if we didn't all write! Its also nice to unwind with a write. Nice work as always John

You really are a poet; this is masterfully done. I don't yet understand the "Rating" and "Points" boxes below, but I am going to type 100 into the Rating box, because this poem is that good. :)

John, this is a very metaphorically creative piece of work...it is unique in its approach as you relate your observations as a poet while wondering how to share the myriad of human emotions and inspirations in a new way...and to offer some kind of answer to your questions, I believe some write for attention, some write to be a part of that circle and some write because they have to (for therapeutic reasons or because it's what they need to make space in their heads for new thoughts to flourish)...this is a great piece of writing, my friend, and will be going on my shelf for future reading ...thanks for sharing!

Yes, that is true... you are welcome, John!
:) our lives aren't so unique after all ... are they!? universal experiences let us relate and writers certainly struggle to attain goals of unique expression on well worn records ... and sometimes worn grooves cause the needle to jump track .. scratching across the grain ..and low and behold a new creation :))) ;)

graphic phrasing .. especially the " fatty globules" of adulation ... its difficult to critique others writings .. especially for me with no formal education at it .. so i lend what i can in encouragement .. we do need that critical eye to help us learn but it is often dulled by "who can say what poetry is" or any of the arts for that matter .. i say i am dancing but my children say i am an embarrassing comedian :))

i enjoyed your honesty and rubber to the road poem "Writing To Survive" ..writers block is frustrating and demoralizing ... when we all need to survive ..
