Summer Picnic

Summer Picnic

A Poem by Patricia Wedel
"

Watermelon and Lemonade...

"
Deviled eggs and potato salad...

Fresh strawberries and a dance in

the Meadow where flowers bloom...

Potatoes planted under a full Moon

Spring onions in a row gathered in a

misty rain where kisses caress the stars...

Succulent tomatoes with seeds sweet

on the tongue when we were young

in a Garden of  mosaic memories...

You have me dancing barefoot in the flowered meadows here Pat and delightful it is too. Especially knowing that there is a sumptuous picnic at hand. I love home made potato salad, and in the hot weather we have been having, it has graced our table often. It is also the season for strawberries and I have had more than a few helpings of those topped with cream. Your picnic is making my mouth water Pat. I am wanting to gate crash your memories. What wonderful memories you have of when you were young.

Summer is a picnic & you've captured so many of the nuances that make it so. Being housebound for 6 years, eggs are one of those things that can't be gotten via online ordering, so your first line made me drool into my morning coffee! This poem rescued me from a recent bout of political wrangling, which I hardly ever do & now I wish I hadn't. I came to WC to refresh my spirit, get my mind off grinding, & this poem is exactly the sustenance I was seeking. Thanks for slaking my thirst! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I love this! I write poems about food too. I remember how sweet the tomatoes were on the farm I grew up on in England. Now you have to find an heirloom tomato, and get lucky with it, in order to enjoy a tomato that tastes like anything at all.
