Free of Me

Free of Me

A Poem by Chloe..Across the Universe

When I was a little girl I wanted to be a woman -
Lipstick, high-heels , black nylons for me
When I was a little girl I wanted to be a Vet
Sick puppies and kitty cats I would heal
When I was a little girl
I wanted to be a mother
My baby doll I did care for, love well

When I was a teenager I wanted to be a woman
Bleeding from the womb
When I was a teenager I wanted to be loved
Kissed and hugged , cuddled and cooed
When I was a teenager my mother said I stood funny
Crooked back , a crack in my otherwise non-perfection
Surgery was the only cure

For me I was robbed of my teenage years
A woman is all I wanted to be
A Vet with sick puppies and kitty cats
Off to college I went
I made up for the robbing of my teenage years
Boys, cars, pot and booze
Hoping to bleed with each new moon

Then a  little girl I wanted to be
No worries and my mommy to take care of me
No sick puppy dogs or kitty cats
No lipstick , nylons high heel shoes
No bleeding from my woman's womb

A little girl with no worries carefree
As now all I have are staid memories
No one to chase away the boogies at bay
Being a woman is not all I thought
If I could be a little girl again
I wish I were a little girl again
I want to be free of me
Can I please be a little girl again
I want my mommy to take care of me

Your words are true for the most of us. I told my children. Enjoy your youth. Life will take the joy and laughter one day. I like the way you create this tale. I need a few days where freedom is playing baseball and not concern for the world around me. Thank you for you excellent poetry.

I really really enjoyed this autobiography. I cherish honesty above all else. This is alternately sweet, raw and direct.
A complete poem
Love it!

"I want to be a little girl again
so this is fantasy"

But you are still the same little girl inside,
or else you could not write such beautiful poetry.
Childhood experiences have shaped your loving personality.
Even the bad ones have taught you what not to do, and that is a plus.

The poem is sentimental and mournful, a calling out into the wilderness that has grown by time...it seems we all want to clear away a little of the underbrush sometimes..and just sit in the sunrays that fall into that clearing- be little boys and girls again..their is nothing wrong with that.

A lovely, soulful poem, Chloe...

This is a fine poem Chloe. I too was robbed of my childhood, and I guess that is why I am forever young! So, lol somehow life compensates us for all sorts of s**t that happens in our lives. I was my mum's right hand woman from such an early age, and I didn't know my father until it was too late and he had passed on. I still don't know him but I know someone who did and I am determined to find out about me one day, but for now...I am mum and you can be my little girl if you like? I had three lads and missed out on having a girl.

I found the repetition in your poem, most heart warming and endearing. All I would say is, that we may have missed out on some aspects but we cannot have it all and what I have now, I feel blessed with.

I am sure you feel the same about darling Donavon.

As to being a little girl again. We can. We can. We are poets and can be who we want whenever we want! hehe

Smiling at you

Tai, always a little girl at heart

Very touching piece. Love the last 2 lines. I think we all feel this once in awhile.
You did a great job of expression with this.

Everyone needs mothering at some time or another throughout their lives, and even though childhood may not have been entirely happy, we all long to go back and redo it knowing what we know now.

This poem takes us through the painful process of growing up, on an emotive level which is so touching.
