The Way I Feel Words

The Way I Feel Words

A Poem by Petra Vlah

I feel words

the same impetuous way

most people feel

                    hunger or cold

                                headache or joy

often

my words

will gently whisper to me

in the same affectionate way

    a lonely mother

would caress with loving thoughts

      her first son

            not yet born

              although so much alive

at times

my words

capriciously play

their tricks

in search of new identity

                                              for better or for worse

I gladly

give away

my very soul

and all I ask of them

is

                to remain

                        forever true

                             forever whole

Lovely poem!!!Words have a way with us writers....they can gently whisper to us or at times be so demanding that we have to leave everything and jot them down. But we want them to remain with us always.Very beautifully penned

this is fun...and so true for us poets...we don't want the words to leave us, even though at times they bring us joy, they also can frustrate us...drive us crazy in the middle of the night...

but aren't we lucky to get to do this?

i feel i am...i feel like conduit..they just come through me when they feel like it, and i have little or no control..

really related to this piece.

" her first son/ not yet born/ although so much alive" I love this metaphor that you have for a writers (or your) yet to be written story. Just love it.
I also love the stanza where you express the trials of trying to figure out what you want to say with a piece of writing. or its "identity"
Overall I love this it expresses so perfectly every writers writing. Our process our hearing an idea becoming inspired and then moving on to the writing. I especially love that you end it by saying that you want to remain true in the end. Remain honest to life. Great Job! I loved this! :)

Yes. I agree completely :)
You're not alone in this place I'm sure Petra, for I and many other fine wordsmiths like yourself feel this way. The way you end the poem talking about words changing identity is very appropriate and deep to consider the true nature of the ever changing words that swim about in our minds and then find themselves on the page in a "whole" which is different and unique from the last time and the next. Well done.

You too...You are welcome...:)
words , their individuality, the ability to camouflage a meaning, then lift up and add weight, meaning to a thought, to a idea, Quiet curled up kitty-cat style they yawn, yoga their backs seemingly to the moon,Then fall down the stairs, in a heap, all x's and O's scrambled looking at us , then the stairs, to exclaim "Dam that was quick!"
