A Poem by C. Michael Kirre

When I look into the mirror

I see a man that should be strong

A man that should be proud

A man that should hold his head high

I would like to see a smile

Not a tired worn-out grin

I would like to see the spirit fly high and free

Not a grey and worn down mind

I see a man broken

I see failures where there should be success

I see a loser where there should be a winner

I see loneliness and sadness and self pity

I don’t see the man I should see

I see me

Don't we all look for what we think is truth, whether inside us or whatever; and consequently, sometimes - just sometimes, even what's straight in front of us is distorted by hope?! Your poem has a point but, methinks it's needs be diluted with kindness and a smile.

The line between self-deprecation and self-pity is a thin one, I think...Few among us can be totally satisfied by what we see in the mirror, and those who are satisfied are likely to be very shallow people anyway. You express what many of us feel, at least some of the time, and I'm sure many readers will be able to identify with this poem. A poignant and thought-provoking write.

Such heartbreak in this write, so sorry you feel sad. But you got a winner of a poem here.
