Do Not Touch

Do Not Touch

A Poem by Phill Oz O'fee
"

The times we now live in ...

"

Do Not Touch

No shaking of hands high fives or hugs

Will be difficult for many of us to bear

We are genetically conditioned to bond

And a loss of human contact will impair

Forced non-pharmaceutical interventions

Keeping each of us physically far apart

May eventually effect our mental health

And put strains upon our hurting hearts

A deficiency of our social connectiveness

Feels as impactful as being staved of food

And the longer our self-isolation goes on

The greater clannish character is unglued

The irony surrounding social distancing

Can be found in an intensive care ward

For even the touch of protective clad staff

To a sick patient strikes a comforting cord

poignant ... strong closing Phill ... I worked many years in Pediatric Intensive Care as a RN and we all know what touch can mean ... i will still shake hands, high five and even hug if someone extends it without fear ... as long as they don't cough nor sneeze on me shoulder ;) i believe we are getting through all this .. i like the Presidents approach ...

I dare say, however, my children and their children are quite use to social distancing ... all glued up in their I-phones and such ... ;)

I believe humanity needs a sense of community and feels isolated without it. Strange the events of late in the world and the so called "cures" are not what I consider beneficial to all perhaps, surreal and worrying times for sure and the starkness is bleeding through for many, great piece :)

A welcome to the new realities and for how long will the new way remain?
Talking abt. re-opening schools here half-day which I see as a health and convenience mess
Guess we have to feel our way

Off all the social distancing poems, this one is very witty, starting with the title.

when we have to get sick and visit the hospital to get a touch...very sad indeed.
And there are, as you indicate in this poem, many ways to die.
very well expressed here.
