Prologue

Long ago, before the world was what it is, there was a great kingdom. This kingdom
was named Ohhalador. Ohhalador was known for many things. But most notable was
the citizens’ innate magical abilities and the dragons they were able to tame
and raise for their cavalry. The other kingdoms in this world feared what could
come if they left Ohhalador’s growth unchecked. So, they formed a plan.

Not gifted with the same abilities as Ohhaladians, the other kingdoms banded
together to create something stronger. These weapons they made could destroy
the entirety of Ohhalador, and everyone there. They showed their strength, and
Ohhalador retreated the only way they could. They sent their strongest magic
user, Alstana of the Clarkstonire family, to open a crack in the earth.
Thousands of miles long and hundreds wide, deep enough for geysers of lava to
form. Large enough to fit what was needed.

Stalagmites were flattened to make room for houses. Patches of land as far from the heat of lava as possible used to grow anything that didn’t need sun. Holes carved in
the middle of stalactites and stalagmites as obstacles for dragon racing.

It is said that Alstana died from overuse of magic, for she was never seen again.
Ohhalador’s citizens stopped using their magic, fearing the same might happen
to them, and eventually lost the ability to use magic at all.

No one above knows what became of the Ohhalador they once knew, for the crack was
sealed almost as fast as it was opened. And no one below knows what came of the
lands above.
