Winter's Unsung Hero

Winter's Unsung Hero

A Poem by Yellow Butterfly
"

This one's for you dad....Happy Heavenly Birthday!

"
His presence is very clear to see
delicately small in stature big in tenacity

You will find no chinks in his armour
as he puffs out his chest ready to protect

Not to be fooled by his cuteness or curious
nature he will fight with no regrets

Warning off all others he sings a chirpy
melodic birdsong so pure for all to hear

A force to behold there is no doubt
with his appearance you should not fear

Evening falls he is rarely heard hidden
amongst winters shimmers of hope

Keeping a watchful eye on loved ones
nearby he knows are struggling to cope

Awakened from the darkest winters night
poised and ready for this day to begin

Fluffing his feathers his red breast on show
a new day is dawning you will hear him sing

Unaware of a presence awaiting outdoors
curtains open winter sun beams through

An unexpected visitor with a message
perched on your garden gate 'looking for you'

For they say that to see a Robin Red Breast
is magical and a sign from heaven above

Bringing with him a message of renewal and
new beginnings wrapped up in daddy's love

One of the best tributes I've read about a loved one that's passed on. I love how your poem is written as if he's alive . . . largely felt all around in one's world, despite being small in stature . . . and how you let this beloved person transform into a bird that can follow around those he left behind . . . nicely clever way to re-invent the "angel on my shoulder" cliche. I love the freshness of your expressions, the rarity of the things you value. Nothing predictable here! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

You are welcome.
An awesome tribute to your late dad that melts the hardest of hearts and eases the toughest of frowns. I like how you use this majestic bird as a sign and a message. May he lives in God's peace and mercy as you go on like a light in the world. Keep shinning. Excellent work.
