The Mask

The Mask

A Poem by ProCoacoa

You see the bright smile
But its actually fake
I wore a mask long ago
And it was very hard to make
This mask I wear
Is so nobody hears
The hurt, the suffering
And my deepest fears
He was like the sunshine
Like the rain
But all he gave me
Was deep dark pain
The sound of his voice
Was like the greatest song
But what I should have noticed was
He was playing me all along
He was like a dream
But truthfully a nightmare
He messed me up
So why should I care?
Because it doesn't help to look away
His picture is imprinted to my mind
And every time I look at him, I cant move
And I know his heart wonders, unlike mine
But I don't seem to care
Not at all
Because my heart is set
And I realize someday I will fall
Now, I wear this mask
So nobody hears
The hurt, the suffering
And my deepest fears.

the resentment we feel after being broken and the camouflage we put to hide it all.... a very nyc expressive poem.
