CHAPTER FOUR:

The ancient stone cracked and broke with an ear piercing bang as it hit the floor. It was a sound loud enough to bring me out of my hypnotic state, and I shook my head to clear away the thoughts and feelings I had before. I looked down into the coffin to find that it was empty. No body was in there, nothing except for a little square box. About the size of a milk carton, so the box fit entirely in the palm of my hand as I picked it up.

“A box?” I asked myself. I let out a laugh. “It’s okay John, it’s just a box.” I turned to show him but saw there was nothing there. No Chase, no Arron, and John wasn’t by the door. In fact, there was no door. Just a solid wall. “What the?” I looked around. The room was the same except for the missing door. “Chase?” I called out “Arron? John?!” I looked around the room for anything familiar but saw only the star on the walls. I started to panic, my thoughts were racing. What is going on? Why am I alone in this room? Where is everyone? Does this have something to do with me opening the coffin? As these thoughts raced I dropped the box and started to bang on the walls screaming “Help!” I started sweating as I ran from wall to wall, banging as hard could; trying to get out. After about two minutes of futile trying, I stopped and sat down to catch my breath. “Am I going to be stuck here for the rest of my life?” I asked myself. I was about ready to cry when I heard a faint, muffled scream. I looked up and found nothing. Again I heard the scream. I rose from the floor and tried to follow the sound. It lead me to the box on the floor. I picked it up and put it to my ear. I heard the scream that sounded like someone in pain. “Whoa” I said as I pulled back “what is this?” I slowly lifted my hand and placed it on the lid. I’ve gotten this far, what else do I have to lose? I opened the lid and looked inside. Nothing. Disappointment.

An enormous burst of wind appeared out of nowhere and slammed me against the wall, I was pinned to the wall with no possible way of moving. The sharp gusts of wind actually started to slice and rip my skin. The pain was immense, but I could not move my arms to comfort the wounds. All I could do was close my eyes and let out a loud scream of pain, which was mute in the sounds of the wind. From out of the deafening screech of the wind, I heard the pillars crumble to the ground. The crack and crash of the stone columns countered the screams of the wind. The wind continued to rip apart my flesh and drain my blood. With all of my remaining strength, I was able to force open one eye and spot my surroundings. One thing that I glimpsed was that I was on the ceiling, and the coffin below me. The wind blurred out most of my vision, but I was able to make out two figures on the wall to the left of me. They were too blurred for detail, but defiantly human shapes. They must have been Chase and Arron. A quick change in view showed a figure in front of a doorway that only gave off a bright, white light; John of course. In one instant the winds ceased and I was falling to the floor. But before my entire body left the ceiling, a massive shock wave threw me through the ceiling like a crane ball through a building. The force of the shock and the force of me colliding with the ceiling completely stripped me of feeling. My body was as numb as the dead. I could not tell if my eyesight was still working because all was black. I had been falling for what seemed like hours before I realized that I was actually laying down. My body regained some feeling, but that meant only excruciating pain. It hurt too much to groan. I then realized that my eyes were closed. With the little strength I had, I forced them open only to find no change of sight. Darkness filled my eyes. Was I blind or was I in a room with no light? If so, where? Adrenaline started to pump into my veins and I lifted my hands for a familiar feeling. My hands slammed into a rock hard surface about half a foot in front of me. I let out a horrid cry of pain. The walls around me started to glow. Writing in bright, red letters appeared on the wall. It read:

THE NEVER ENDING CURSE

All who enter the evil tomb,

Shall face a never-ending doom.

In Hell you will be,

or scream to be free,

But return to the tomb is all you shall see.

Thrill and doom,

Is all that shall hold,

Until a new soul,

Enters the tomb.

I was confused at first about what this meant, but then it hit me. The screaming from the box. The voices in the room and the lack of control I had. As soon as I entered the square room I entered into the curse, and as soon as I opened the coffin I released the previous soul of the curse and took their place. I am now forced into an endless cycle of forcing myself on the outside of this coffin to open the tomb or I will be dragged to the never-ending suffering of the inferno. Wait, didn't Chase and Aaron enter the room too? Then I guess they are part of this curse too. We can only hope for a new person to be curious enough, or stupid enough, to venture all the way in here. Not likely because of the psychological barrier repelling explorers, which must also be part of the curse. This may not be the scorching plains of the Inferno, but this is certainly Hell. What a horrid curse this is.
