Caterpillar Skin

Caterpillar Skin

A Poem by Pryde Foltz

Caterpillar Skin

butterfly buff
intimidating no-thing
softening even
the sociopathic
one

oddly

paradise
remembered
with a flutter

trailing digits
among blooms

we are

we are lost
love is forgotten
in hedonistic haze

you count seven
pyrite-smelted coins

slipping
through space-time

your grip must be tight
your wings kept unfurled
to mine the material
in the gravitational
waves and wake

this time
I'll make it

awaken
enlighten

you were born a papillon
wrapped in caterpillar skin
but there is no flight
with your wings
gold-plated

give up the fire
release spent fuel

scatter your ore

manna for seedlings
stardust scaffold

radiate gentleness
nurture eternity

you were born a papillion
wrapped in caterpillar skin
but there is no flight
with your wings
gold-plated

Reincarnation butterfly trying to make the path to enlightenment which is extremely difficult and takes a lot of work

If you don't first succeed, try.. .. .. ? There is determination, hope and promise in your poem, Pryde - a feeling that in your own time, I know, am sure.. life will fly as it should, could - and will.

We are all star stuff, not separate from nature or the stars… part of the cosmic whole. These lines stand out for me:
"paradise

remembered

love is forgotten

slipping
through space-time

I'll make it
scatter your ore

manna for seedlings

stardust scaffold

radiate gentleness

nurture eternity

you were born a [papillon]

wrapped in caterpillar skin"

You're welcome
A reminder about how wonderful nature can be. Butterflies are incredibly beautiful, fragile and spiritual. Caterpillars are actually quite creepy and ugly. Hard to fathom that out of a chrysalis, such beauty should emerge. Lovely imagery in your words Pryde. Always good to read something new from you.

The poetic strokes make nature and its kingdom more enticing.

'...you count seven
pyrite-smelted coins
slipping
through space-time...'

The imagery and its soft unfolding are stunning. I love it.

Thank you, Andrew:)
I love butterflies and their myriad types; amazing art work that enriches our lives and make waves for miles without seeing them or noticing.
You sum up the experiences marvelously.
