Helical Foundations

Helical Foundations

A Poem by Pryde Foltz

Helical Foundations

thrown from the vortex

to buttress the Earth

pursued by ravenous wolves

into the deep belly

of the lupine beast

an aura sullied

by avaricious clutches

a mind rattled

by lying lips

pleasure enslaves the will

blood-lines entwine

her psyche split in two

generational expansion achieved

her duty is fulfilled

yet still, she faces

predatory eyes

produce more

or die trying

her freedom and youth stolen

so helices can split

           and twist

forever through time

the blood must flow

the foundation must hold

***

I was curious about the title, so I googled it and came up with fortifying foundations of buildings, reinforcing soils and and buttressing structures. In the poem, I think the author is trying to compare the life of someone with that. Build strong foundations, gain freedoms that are hard fought and prove the cynics wrong. I got that from this marvelous poem.

A sinister spectre, femme fatale from the pit of helical hades or maybe a merely woman tormented by love, who knows, guess it could be either?

Happy New year dear Pryde.
Helical Foundations vibrates the conscious and has to disturb the unconscious. "...an aura sullied by avaricious clutches
a mind rattled by lying lips
pleasure enslaves the will..." Anyone who grieves the loss of a love can't help but feel the layers of subtext inherent in these lines. Another gem to read again and again. Thank you for posting.

Thank you, Patricia:)
super powerful .. love the vortex .. the buttressing .. the deep belly of the beast .. magically drew me in to the danger ... avarice .. pleasures ... predators .. for me ..this poem is about so many different things but all about foundations that must survive .. duality of our one selves expresses in every aspect of life, says i ... much is risked and way too much can be the cost having helices twist and fracture .. sheesh .. well done! lots of meat in this in my opinion .. loved that read!

not much is it?!
sometimes what beats us down makes us stronger in the end and ready to face any obstacle.
The subject of this poem has gathered herself...and regardless what others think of her, she lives her life according to her own beliefs, not those of others.
