First date

First date

A Poem by R.M.C
"

A small poetic story of a first date.

"

Ever since I laid eyes on you,

I was captivated, it is true,

At that moment, my heart you stole,

Prying me open to see my soul.

That very night, I asked you on a date,

Nervous as hell and sure I was too late,

But you smiled and said yes, and my heart soared,

Looking to the heavens, I thanked our Lord.

I didn’t have a car so we just walked,

I was so nervous that I nearly balked,

I didn’t have much but I treated you right,

I kept you laughing and smiling till there was no light.

When I gave you my coat because the night was chilly,

You snuggled into my side and kissed me,

I just stood, speechless, and you laughed,

Thinking that I was cute and daft.

While we walked, I felt at ease with you

And you felt comfortable with me too,

To me, we felt so right together,

Even then, I could imagine us being forever.

I walked you to your door,

You gave me one kiss more,

I left you for the night,

Knowing we’d be alright.

I walked down your moonlit street,

Excited for tomorrow, when again we’d meet,

I laid on my bed just staring at my ceiling,

High on the emotions that I was feeling.

This is such a cute poem. First date is always special and remains in our heart forever. Even though we move so many miles ahead thinking of the first date always brings us a smile. So sweetly written reminded me of my first date. Thanks for sharing

You're most welcome, pleasure to enter and have some of my work read. Thank you very much.
This is a very good explanation of how a person might feel in this situation. Your use of details really brings this vignette alive with visuals & feelings. I like that this isn't told in a way that feels like the lady is being put on a pedestal or just admired for her beauty (so overdone in poetry). The everyday conversational tones work well with the everyday observations we can all relate to.

How sweetly romantic this poem is! I could picture the young couple walking down the street...laughing, holding hands, and then the kiss! Filled with hope for more dates and a strong relationship. I enjoyed this. Lydi**
