Set the Demons Free

Set the Demons Free

A Poem by Rachael Lea

Eyes are heavy Feeling undone

Careful what you say for I may shun

Just wait one moment for my brew

To wake me up to talk to you

So dark and rich and flavorful

Helping me to become capable

Of the person you have come to know

Instead of a monster with eyes aglow

One more moment my dear friend

I have to drink this to the end

This magical potion made just for me

Is the only way set my demons free

I must drink it to the last drop

To gain control for this madness stop

I’m almost done one sip left!

You seem off maybe a little depressed

There, there it is all gone, I’m feeling great

You seem cranky… have a sip of fate

I’ll make you a cup and another for me

It seems like you have demons to be freed

So I wrote a poem on coffee earlier today and thought it was such a fun topic I wanted to write another one. What do you think of it?

I like this poem it keeps you guessing. Someone waking in a mood and can't function until that cup of coffee. A clever play on words and the twist at the end.
Until you mentioned coffee I was thinking tea, I live in England and I have a cup of tea every morning.

The invigorating, reviving qualities of that morning friend, perfectly captured. When thoughts never end and confusion reigns, sometimes that morning moment feels like the only semblance of sanity your head will know today, but there's' always another cup.
Great write, enjoyed the ending :)
