'The mechanics of magic' is splendid. True magic just happens, doesn't it, without benefit of anything technical? But here, the partnership between the player and the instrument creates the secret ingredient. Much enjoyed.
P.S: Thanks for the kind reviews, particularly of the story. Glad you thought it was worth something.
There is magic inside a piano, especially when it has a familiar scent - a worn damper pedal polished from years of playing with our bare feet and that lamp atop that has a recognizable pitch when we click it on - like a green light that signals us to drive. In fact, playing old songs is much like driving down the backroads of our home town - those paths that hold memories at each corner. Sometimes, I wonder if my piano is my skeleton that rattles like a windchime when I touch it - just another haunt for my soul - seems I am not alone in feeling this way - your piano comes alive too.
I really enjoyed this piece - I can relate to it - very much.

"and slide them into keys"
I think you mean "onto keys"?
"the hammers and strings
felt and wood"
this read a bit awkwardly - i understand now that you mean felt as in the fabric, but it sort of connects to the previous line, and i read it like a verb... which read strangely, so i had to change it. so it interrupted my flow
"the mechanics of magic"
i ADORE THAT LINE. :) beautifulllll
"and we create melodies."
i felt as though melodies needed something to modify it or whtaever, like an adjective. like we create some kind of melody... you know? it halted the poem too quickly..... if that makes sense?
even though i critiqued this a lot, i liked it A LOT as well. its a great piece !
