Mother's Advice!A Story by AmadaBest advice my mother ever gave me!My best friend wasn’t much into studies. As a result, he would consistently get low grades. My friends and at times, their parents, would often advise me to stay away from him… To be with someone more ‘smart’. Naive as I was, I started avoiding my best friend. It didn't take long for my mother to notice my foolish behavior. She asked me the reason. “I don't want to be dumb,” I said. “Who told you that?” she asked. I told her everything. “Look at me, Rahul!” she said. “Even, when I was like, in school, I was no smart. In fact, you know, I could only study till 10th grade. So, does it make your mother worthless too?” “No, maa.” “Now, listen to me, Rahul . In life, don't ever, I repeat, ever, be in a hurry to label people. It's impossible for everyone to be perfect. But, each one of us surely has a thing or more to cherish about and learn from. Your friend, whatever others may say, is incredibly smart, sensitive and has many qualities. Learning from them is never going to make you dumb. Do you get it?” “Very much” I replied. “Good,” my mother smiled. “Now, go fill the water bottles.” © 2018 AmadaAuthor's Note
