A Poem by Robin
"

origins

"

She spun around the moon

as the sun hid from an empty sky

and coaxed tears from the darkness

to cool a desolate earth

from under the surface

she touched the mirror of the sea

and from this rippled pool

rose a porcelain skinned nymph

her eyes glint iridescent green

as she curled from the turquiose foam

to take her first breath upon obsidian sands

and crawled to the fairie ferns

raw and bleeding

to sleep beneath the boughs of a talking tree

its weeping roots gasping into a severed brook

where she curled into its embrace

and drifted into dream

the tree peeled back its rings

golden sap to ink upon a willow rune

papyrus fed to the oracle moth

where she gathered silk for wings

to fly to pyramids of ice

carrying apricot roses

and white tea

to lay before a sacrophagus of wishes

and she awoke

woman stood upright

she ate the fruit from trembling vines

and spit the onyx seeds of beginnings

into the jungle mist

where the wind swept them upward

to a nest feathered in hope and compassion

away from the reach of the predator

armored in bone and trophies of skin

heavy palms slapping the war drums of hell

a mad dance around the sacrificial fire

domination

she slipped through the night

past the amber glow

to a valley of light

through marble corridors and incense

where mynah birds chanted in sacred verse

and carved jade statues cast their shadows

upon a temple of ivory and bamboo

and there ...

sixty four golden disks climbed to god

and time became a moment

and a moment became a lotus

she walked to the edge

and dove back into her sea

her splash of stardrops

spread across the night

she arched her back

and exhaled ...

the earth became a bubble

and the sun rose and set

and she smiled

and spun around the moon

Yes sir, that's our Selene girl, like Ed Hart said. Not only does she cause a nice rosy flush in the guys but us girls too.

rose a porcelain skinned nymph

her eyes glint iridescent green

This is mesmerizing.

and she awoke

woman stood upright

she ate the fruit from trembling vines

and spit the onyx seeds of beginnings

into the jungle mist

where the wind swept them upward

to a nest feathered in hope and compassion

away from the reach of the predator

armored in bone and trophies of skin

heavy palms slapping the war drums of hell

a mad dance around the sacrificial fire

But don't go giving her any ideas for her encore, now.

she walked to the edge

and dove back into her sea

her splash of stardrops across the night

she arched her back

and exhaled ...

the earth became a bubble

and the sun rose and set

and she smiled

and spun around the moon

She's too close to the sea these days as it is. I hope one day you get to meet her. Then you'll see, although I think you already do, just how much this creation resembles our girl.

Creation myths are my favorite, and this story feels ancient. A beautiful goddess, I will never see the moon the same again. Your poem would fit in wonderfully with the collection of creation myths I recently read in a book. Love this one!

What a gem of myth...so satisfying in all its glory of hues and adoration.

This poem has a smooth almost romantic feel to it. It reminds me of a mermaid only not siren like. A glorious creature in its own space; own realm. You have let us behold the magic. The imagery has allow me to picture things in novels. Wonderful write.

I think this is the longest poem I've ever read of yours haha - it's absolutely brilliant - yes very seleney - the descriptions, the cadence and tone - you got her here (not sure if that was intention) - though your voice shines through throughout - loved it - a favourite!

it's that selene girl again...spreading her fairy dust around, making us guy things gawk and sputter, and some of us go and do things like this...i'm going to talk to somebody about it

Wowzer!! Now this is a creation myth I can buy into! Just beautiful imagery, dripping in every bright colour of feminine worship.
