Hopes and Dreams

Hopes and Dreams

A Poem by RedThroat

'Truth in dreams' the people say

Yet what may be is hard to shake

The visions of wishful thinking

Have led many men to drinking

And what of nightmares dark and cruel?

One hopes these never become true

At least for me they're dreamt and done

But it's a recurring plight for some

I much prefer the other dreams

Which do not hide their surreal themes

Where you always long to return to sleep

To continue the weird and deep

Deep dreams by day are also sweet

Though be aware what kind you meet

Because as I have said before

Illusions always beg for more

Like nightmares they oft' return

And in your mind that fire burns

So possible, so full of bliss

'If only it would be like this!'

Of course there are other dreams by day

Which do not show what might, what may

Where your mind begins to wander

While you sit there staring yonder

When it returns it brings ideas

Some bad, some strange, some worth to hear

But interrupt the wand'ring mind

Then all its fruits are left behind

Don't let it wander off too long

Lest it brings the Siren's Song

Such temptation I admit

And so again the fire's lit

The picture bright, my hopes so high

And though I know it is a lie

What harm is there to dream, to fly?

I think I will crash soft this time
