Darkness

Darkness

A Poem by Richard Helbert

Lost alone on the edge of the abyss,
the darkness surrounds me,
leaving me feeling utterly alone,
hard to breathe,
chest as tight as a drum,
and as hard as a rock,
maybe death would be better,
at least eternal,
but ill give it one more shot,
tommorow is a new day,
maybe my luck will change,
and if not i always have the loaded gun,
in the middle dresser drawer,
quick and easy escape,
from this mad and doomed world.
nothing but shades of black and gray,
and ice cold,
no one to love,
so many to hate,
if i am going to make it one more week,
i need to be healed,
thats like asking for a miracle i know,
but thats my dream,
just one more touch from her ivory skin,
one more embrace ,
one more look into her beautiful blue eyes, '
and then ill be home and free,
such an angel real and flawed,
yet at the same time,
the definition of perfection,
a holy entity,
if i had ever seen one,
light exploded from her,
unable to be contained,
and this glow,
could light a million cities,
and warm the coldest part of hell,
after that last magical embrace,
im set and ready to go wherever it is,
that cats like me go,
away i say and i hope,
that my spirit will entertwine with hers,
in the afterlife,
and that will be my prize my eternal reward,
for staying around as long as i did ,
amid the gloom and doom,
wearing only a smile,
and unbearable pain of this world
consumed me up into its core,
showing its ugly ragged face everyday,
yet when i see her in my dreams
it becomes paradise
and i never want to leave,
all the terror and torture,
worth every scream..........
