Black Janaury

Black Janaury

A Poem by Robert Wilson
"

Poem about the current recession

"

We have felt so

Sorry for ourselves that

We are turning into

The ones

We should have felt sorry for

In the first place

Out of the buildings

And into the boxes

We leave our sins behind

In damp, light-less

Structures

As we rebuild this life

We destroyed

With our own hollow

Materialistic-induced

Self pity

Instead of watching television

We will watch our children

Kill each other

For that last piece of corn

Instead of surfing the web

We will surf on our own sorrows

And drown in that pain

Because we cannot float

On our spoiled personalities

The last dollar will be spent

On a Razr phone

That will be stolen

Broken

Then kicked into the soil

Like we should have done

With our egos

A long time ago

I like it - but for a slam piece it seems a bit weak. No phrase really sticks out and hits me. That could be because this is written - performance pieces tend to loose their strength when read.

This is good. It really shows how bad the economy and the citizens are getting.
