Boogeyman

Boogeyman

A Poem by Sparrow
"

No matter how many times you look, when you close your eyes you know he's there, just waiting for you to let down your guard.

"

The doors are securely locked
The curtains pulled shut
My belly fully stocked
With snoring guard for a mutt

Safely returning to my haven.
Once under my frigid covers,
I find my soul is still craven
No one held; lacking a lover.

Nothing alien can get me
No tingling, phantom hands.
My lonely night guaranteed
Just a six hour span...

I tell myself I can make it...I think
Try not to imagine his shadowed hands
Paranoia making me scared to blink
Before me, the long night expands.

My back is safely guarded there
My eyes vigilant one last time
Mind increasingly unable to bear
Sheltered- only my dreams sublime

Nothing is as sacred as our sleep. We expect to wake up to a new day, regardless. This poem reflects that to me.

My back is safely guarded there
My eyes vigilant one last time ... yes, true and very well written!

What a coy haunting. I like this one. It has a beat that ticks to a fear within you.
