Deadbeats and Dreamers

Deadbeats and Dreamers

A Poem by Miss Shea

We are the deadbeats

We are the dreamers

We are the once-upon-a-timers

You hear about all your life

We are the reason you never gave up

And never backed down

And never opted out

For something that wasn’t there

We are the different dead-ends

Whose dreams vanished in thin air

We are the ones looking for a break

When the break is out there

Waiting to be pursued

When we won’t be pursing

We are the ones wishing

To make it through the day

To have another chance

To take a different path

We are the failures of life

Always destined to dream big

Always meant to finish small

We are the dreamers…

The deadbeats tonight,

And tomorrow

And the rest of our lives.
