Her Protector

Her Protector

A Poem by Silmara McGarry

In days of war, a knight so bold,
with armour gleaming, heart of gold.
His love a maiden fair and true,
in 1500, their love anew.

In hidden love's embrace, he pledged to the king,
to guard her through the woods, where whispers sing.
With unwavering heart, he shielded her, so keen,
as she bore a message to the realm unseen.

Through jousts and battles, he did ride,
from her sweet smile, he did not hide.
Her name, a secret, known to none,
in moonlit nights, their hearts were one.

With quill and parchment, he did write,
love poems that took flight at night.
In hidden verses, his heart's delight,
Expressed in words, pure love sweet light.

Though centuries passed,
their love embrace,
lives on in verses, time can't erase.
For in their words, their love does thrive,
even in more modern times,
they will forever survive.

History and romance for the price of one, Silmara, and so rhythmically laid! What a perfect visual to accompany your words, too. If you don't mind me saying so, your poem had a touch of the movie, The Knights Tale.

Many thanks for gifting me a lighter heart on a dull, drear day.

A delightful poem on a 1500s romance. Everything about this story is beautiful. 1500s are my very favorite Era and I do a lot of reading and research on it. A quill and parchment and a heart of love breathed life into verses of true love that will never vanish, though the lovers may be gone with the wind of the centuries. I loved also the rhyming and the font colour and chosen picture. Altogether they join to give us a very enjoyable poetic experience.

This was great; I enjoyed every bit of it. Mideaval feel to it; Shakespearean romance plays.
You are highly expressive.

The hidden songs of an ancient bard. A single voice in a smoked filled hall and single pluckings of a harp. This is a true ballad. I like the Pre Raphealite like painting also.

I am aware that my poetry is rarely good. Sometimes it's decent.

When I read this I felt humbled for a few seconds, then I felt inspired by your talent. This poem gives an awesome message of hope. But the way it comes around is very impressive. It's easy to get lost In a write when it moves in different directions, but this write was spot on.

The illustration is very good as well encapsulating the story.
