The Outlaw's Widow (The Honeymoon)

The Outlaw's Widow (The Honeymoon)

A Poem by Silver-Fox
"

This is something I am working on. Not truly edited but a series of prose hopefully made into a book.

"
All her life she was mysterious to those she knew.
very tall elegant with scarlet hair
Laura was her name
she was well educated
as all southern ladies from wealth
she learned to ride saddle broncs
when she was just a kid

Sneaking off with the boys
in an old worn out pair of jeans
back up the rose lattice to her room she went
each day after she played the boy's games
into a silky dress with her hair perfectly in place

She graduated finishing school when she was eighteen
a classy lady to look at one might think
but under all the pearls and lace
she hide her dark secrets from her best of friends

Cane was raised up by his brothers in another town
he was rough around the edges
and never wanted to settle down
women came easy to him for a night of fun
all he had to do was twirl his gun

Until one day his gang came to her town
to rob the local bank
she was in the General Store buying a few things
he saw her through the window
yelled to his gang to hold up
he had just seen the most beautiful thing

He climbed off his black stallion named Buck
and slowly walked into where she was shopping
he came right up to her and took off his hat
when their eyes met it was true love
right then and there
he decided not to rob her local bank
instead he asked her to have a meal with him

She had no idea he was an outlaw man
they ate, danced, and had the best ole' time.
in a matter of weeks he asked her to marry him
she happily said yes still not knowing he was an outlaw man
they spent their honeymoon in New Orleans
on some old river boat
where he would sneak out to gamble when she was asleep
he was so good to her that first year

They traveled from town to town
he told her to see this great land
she smiled and always was so classy
every town they went to when she fell asleep
each night he would meet up with his gang and rob banks
then run back to the hotel and climb in bed with his wife
no one suspected him with her on his arm
all she knew was he made her happy and was a good man

Now lies come cheap when the liquor is expensive
and a outlaw man can fool even his priest
this was a time they were happy
a time she believed all his lies
he even went to church with her to sit by her side
soon very soon things would change
lies always come to surface after years of hiding
but for now things were perfect for them
