Forever Onward

Forever Onward

A Poem by Sharon Kim

Forever Onward

Hear the footsteps tread

softly into the past;

                Fading

Hear the soldiers’ cries of pain

as they are wounded from gunfire;

                Memories

A casualty of war lays immobile,

thinking of how he was paralyzed;

                Recalled

He still aches these days

in body, soul and mind;

                Pain

Remembering his lost friends,

each day is a struggle;

                Still

Nights of horror filled dreams

are never ending;

                he marches

The future, what is there?

There is but one way to find out.

                forever onward.

Nicely done. I enjoyed the structure with the one word lines driving home the present tense observations and set off from the past tense recalled. I also enjoyed the hope expressed in the last lines and enjoyed the wauy you structured this to bring it back to the begining with "marches" as a mirror of footsteps tread". Well structured, strong imagery, and simple straight forward language. Brava!
