Doll

Doll

A Poem by Smile

Among toys and numerous playthings,

sits a ragged doll on display,

staring out into the world,

watching the mothers and daughters,

fathers and sons,

as your neighbors leave,

one by one,

and you watch them leaving thinking,

someday, someone will come for ME,

someone will take me home...

instead giving me faces of distaste at my ugliness,

and then smiling as they see the pink doll next to me,

but yet, here you are,

still sitting, waiting and hoping,

becoming so numb of everything else,

living off that hope,

yet somewhere inside you,

you know this is it,

this is where you belong,

on the shelves of a department room,

dust building up,

becoming that of a blanket,

sleep now my child,

for I will protect you from the cruel world...

Very lovely piece.
My most favorite lines are:
"sleep now my child,

for I will protect you from the cruel world."
