Beautiful Woman

Beautiful Woman

A Poem by SpokenWord
"

What do you see when you look into a mirror?

"
What lies in the mind of a beautiful woman
who can see beauty even in darkness
but is blind to the beauty that resides
inside her heart and streams out her flesh
like sweet ambrosia from Goddess Venus
humbling men to the point of speechlessness
stealing his confidence from a single glance
but when she looks in the mirror
she doesn't see beauty
she sees instead
imperfections

What lives in the heart of a beautiful woman
who decides that a man with a knife
can re-create her more perfectly
than the God who gave her life
as if each breathe she takes
is into a body that is some how
not worthy to be considered God's temple
When she looks in the mirror
she doesn't see perfection
she sees instead
eyes that should be blue
lips that are too thin
a nose that is too thick
breast that are too small
a stomach that isn't flat
who told her beauty is shallow
and not diverse in nature?

What possess the soul of a beautiful woman
who is told by others of her beauty
and instead of her recognizing it with a thank you
she rejects them with an explanation
of why she isn't beautiful in the first place
as if beauty isn't in the eye of the beholder

Beauty comes from inside of us
and is expressed outside ourselves
what we think in our minds
and what we believe in our hearts
will live in our soul and be
reflected in the reflection
of self image in the mirror

Ask yourself
what is beauty anyway?

beauty isn't skin deep..and we all have to wake up and embrace this fact..perfection is just a notion..and may be everyone's perfect the way they are..and there is absolutely no need to improvise perfection..is there?
"will live in our soul and be
reflected in the reflection
of self image in the mirror"..couldn't agree more..love this one !

A slave to beauty, the way it sounds feels and moves
reflection is always backwards, the part of your hair is never in the place you left it

it's an incredibly uncertain journey frought with endless obstacles for modern day woman to shed the scales of projected perfection and standards of coy vulnerability thrust on them from the cradle to the grave by a society of greed and manipulative gloss~ your poetic dives inside the recesses of woman mind cast in reflection against a looking glass that twists beauty through a projected screen in the background~ your poem speaks intimately to many of us I am certain~ snippets of most of us and where we have been or are or will be reside within each perfectly moving line~ excellent poetic~

nice!!! you explore the realms of beauty - and how so many don't see their own beauty and rather cast it aside - I really liked the idea of how can a man with a knife re-do what has been made etc - and then summing it up with the beauty comes from inside idea!! nice!

This is true to life what woman or man for that matter hasn' wished for the beauty of am Aphrodite or an Adonis?. I know I will nwever achive such but then it is said that beauty comes fromthe inside I know this to be true because I'm in love with a "not so plain" looking woman on the outside, but it is not that which attracted me to her No her inner beauty drew me to her. We have become as twins two souls two hearts in tune.

What is beauty? hmmm... it's silly question to ask me really, beauty is just a word to me, i think everyone else has beauty but me!
anyway you've written a brilliant poem, makes me think... well done!

"Beauty is not in the face... beauty is a light in the heart" so says Kahlil Gibran.. Beauty is so many things.Nature is glorious.. babies, puppies, those who see not only with their eyes but also with their hearts and souls. That is beauty to me.
It seems you see beauty this way.
Your poem is an excellent reminder of how so much emphasis is put on absolute perfection .. not perfect, not beautiful. Such a wise poem .. so many find it hard to see their own beauty... many go to extreme measures to become 'perfect'. I see beauty in this poem ...

Thoughts???? Why this is the most fantastic poem I have ever laid my eyes on! it holds such truth, images that blind the eye, mind. I am staring at this and thinking 'Like wow!' This is damn good!!! I'm honestly at a loss for words on this. Meaning, I have never come across something that took my breath away as much as this, and that is honest as honest can be. OMG!!!

You just described half, no, most all, of the woman on this planet. Amazing!!
