Relived

Relived

A Poem by Sunshine Kid

It’s indescribable
When you relive
An experience
In your mind
To reproduce it
On paper
In words
To look at it
As you once did
All that time
Ago.
It’s strange
Looking back
On it
With a new
Understanding
And newly opened
Eyes
Examining something
You knew not
Lost
Or
Forgotten
But hidden
In the darker
Corners.
Feeling those
Emotions as
If it happened
Closer
Closer
The venom
Before it
Was sucked
Out.
Nostalgia
Perhaps
Thought slightly
Bitter
But not by
Much
The naivety
Of before
Flooding the
Veins
With false
Blood.
Sometimes
Sometimes
A vision appears
Of you
(Younger
Of course)
And him
(Or her)
And the scene
Plays out
Over and
Over and
Over again
Until all that’s
Left
Is the feelings
Of then
Not now
Until you
Slap the sense
Back in
(Or out)
And the vision
Disappears
Like light
Dancing around
Your head
As
A
Halo.
And
Sometimes
Sometimes
You may be
Ashamed
But hopefully
By now
You understand enough
Not to be
And you can
Write
Explain
As if
As if
As if
You still had
It.
