The innocent eyes

Those innocent eyes
Were looking so tired
As they were waiting
To see that last smile.

Those innocent eyes
Were filled with tears
As they were overloaded
Since few years.

Those innocent eyes
Were looking so dull
As they got tired
Of waiting for that last call.

Those innocent eyes .
At last get closed.
As they went to sleep .
For ever and ever.

What a haunting poem! At first I was thinking about how a child will often have innocent eyes, and yet you can also see into them, that the child has had a hard life. As your poem went on, I felt how this is sad to see in a child . . . until the end, where I began to have a little different interpretation, as if the innocent eyes were waiting for death . . . one's own death or the death of someone close? I like poems that leave us with questions, so our minds continue to think about what this could mean. Haven't seen you much here in recent months . . . I have also been busy, not visiting the cafe very often as before. Trying to get back into the habit of reviewing again here & I hope you share more of your great poetry (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

This is a wonderful and sad poem upon reaching the final line. Hopelessness is what one senses.

It has good rhythm and flow and well-structured stanzas.
