Demons

I want to be with you,
But always step aside,
Don't wanna hurt you,
That something dark inside.

Stay away from me,
I don't want to hurt you,
I deserve loneliness,
You can't hide the truth.

The darkness has surrounded me,
No I can't escape from it,
Everywhere is dark and black,
That's it I want to quit.

Face the reality,
You have to admit what is true,
Don't worry I'll be there for you,
Once I defeat this demon soul.

One of my favorite songs of all time is "Daughters" by John Mayer . . . he's in love with this girl, but she's broken from something her father did to her (my father raped me alot, so that's why I love the way he puts this in the song). Your poem strikes me in a similar way . . . except this is spoken by the one who feels broken. Even after healing for 50 years from child abuse, I still feel broken lots of the time, & your poem expresses exactly what I feel -- that I should not mess up someone's life who I love, becuz I want their love, but real love is sparing this other person from my brokenness. Only a truly broken spirit would understand how that feels exactly like you've put it in your poem! Have a great 2020 & I hope you stop by with new writing now & then! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
