I Couldn't Stay

I Couldn't Stay

A Poem by Lydia

The river flows by me

Reminding me of my childhood

And all the painful memories

If only you had just understood

I left because I had no choice

Not because I wanted to

I left because they heard your voice

Because I had to protect you

They chased me for so long

Far longer than I can recount

You should be glad I didn't string you along

Can't you see I couldn't bring you around

I did my best to try to say

I really tried, I wouldn't fib

But I had to choose to turn away

I know someday you'll be glad I did.
