A Cat's Game

A Cat's Game

A Poem by Reianna Jewel

I made a mistake

I left my heart out,

and it was snatched up

by a sneaky feline.

He pounced on it,

and is toying with

my already fragile heart.

His claws gently prod,

making me weak

and vulnerable.

I am at his mercy

and there’s nothing I can do.

Once he is done with it

he sharpens his claws

And tears my heart open

tossing it aside,

no longer entertained.

By the time I find my heart,

and somehow sew it back together,

another hungry monster

has gotten a hold of it.

I am exhausted,

but I have no choice.

It’s out of my hands.

I know exactly where you're coming from on this one. Been there myself; felt just like you did, lost and unable to pull free of my feelings for this jerk. Then, he did it for me, tossed me aside like a paper wrapper that once covered his favorite burger. I hurt for a very long time. I pined and cried and begged because, for whatever reason, I thought he was the only one for me. Then, one day, another guy came along and helped nurse my wounded heart right into his hands. And lo and behold, he was no better. Then, my Dad pulled me aside and explained to me that I was showing a pattern. I was choosing the same type of guy, over and over. He said, "try this, choose the complete opposite, starting with their appearance. See past the handsome face, see past the tongue 'n cheek charm, see past the camouflaged sly smile. Do these things and I guarantee you, you will be sparing yourself this pain and cheating him of his gain. Ask yourself questions about him before you dive in to learn the answers first-hand. Go opposite and see how that works for you". I always, and I mean, always listened to my Dad. He would stand back and watch me fall a couple of times before he would jump in and give me advice. I know now why he did. He knew I would be ready to listen. I eventually got to the point that I asked him not to wait until I got hurt if he saw it coming first. I learned a valuable lesson and finally took charge of my life and learned how to not let a guy snow me, rule me and get to the point that I was used and abused. I knew when to pull away before it got to that point EVER again. It worked for me. People seem to compare guys to dogs and women to cats. You had it right here. Men are the cats, they are cunning, secretive, selfish and go for the heart with anything sharp and then just walk away as if nothing ever happened. Women are more like dogs, they're loyal, friendly until abused, loving and can be the best friend ever, protective, giving and smart. All a cat has going for them is the softness of their exterior. Dogs have that too. So, chin up and be open to change.

You know cats are fickle and they are cruel. The sad thing is that human males (as well as females) can also display the same traits. It is a horrible feeling to come to the conclusion you are a toy for someone else's enjoyment. Like the way you have approached this subject.
