To whom it may concern ?

What benefit to be gained
from one's own self worth,
if a heart is bereft of humanity
and of compassion it is dearth?

So if I may before it's too late
offer, some well meant advice,
narcissism is a selfish trait
a characteristic not so nice!

Unassuming and humble be
is the way to lick it,
then the cap will fit your head 
that is the simple trick to it !

ken venturi...dead now, but was a professional golfer...he told a story about his dad...and what his dad told him...
"when others say you are good" then you are...but if you have to say it yourself, you are no where near being great..

this poem is spot on...saw two spots for edit..second line "one's" and fifth line "before it's too late"

but wow, so well said here...if we have to tell people how great we are...then we aren't.

A wise poem! If a person is a Materialist, then that person's self worth can't be more than the few dollars worth of chemicals that it takes to assemble a human body, but if we're more than body then we're worth much more. It takes an Other to see us as more than a body, and this Other must have humanity and compassion to accomplish that. There can be no society without humanity and compassion, no money, no right to property, no children, and so forth.
