Beware the beast..

Beware the beast..

A Poem by Tom
"

Rings true today as time before.

"

Beware the beast !

A Poem by Tom
"

It's a jungle out there folks.....be careful !

 "
Shun the tiger, silent and stealth
searching for its quarry,
stay indoors and mind your health
or you'll be very sorry!

Don't dip your toes, in the water cool
where the crocodile patiently waits,
for you will look a silly fool
if swallowed whole, in front of all your mates!

Be watchful of prowling wolf
when walking through a leafy wood,
run away, should you hear its ghastly howl
don't be naive, like little red riding hood!

Heed the hyena's mocking laugh
hungry for meat, red and raw,
let not yourself be chewed in half
by its powerful, bone crushing jaw!

Avoid the snake in the grass
hiding out of sight,
keep on the path, don't trespass
or you'll receive a poisonous bite!

If playing the fine, colonial game
in land of mahout and elephant,
guard against the mosquito's toxic aim
and rebuff it with repellant!

Step over the ant, small and placid
is my solemn decree,
for it is armed with formic acid
just like a million brothers,
from the colony!

And beware the beast, trust the least,
a bloodthirsty creature, known as Man,
no lethal jaws, rasping claws, poisonous bite, nor acidic might..
But he may kill you...just because he Can?

I read this and must have forgotten to leave a review. There are things in this world we need to be wary of and heed with caution.

Nature is a world and force of its own. These creatures are in their home; their environment where they survive and thrive.

As humans we can be a bit mushy brained and think we are King Kong. We think we are all important until we are shredded by a lion or bate for a shark.

I love the imagery that is portrayed in this piece and we should stop thinking we are all powerful.

Thank you Sir
and he is most dangerous, as in Richard Connell's short story..."The most dangerous game"---
because he can reason...and sometimes that reason is insane. Very scary.

Indeed so, thank you Anita!
I like the build up to the last verse Tom, nothing in the natural world kills for the sake of it, it is usually out of fear, hunger or to protect the young ...
Then there is this damaged species called "Humans" that don't understand the rules ..

I love the whole poem, yet the last line was my favorite... beware of man... oh yes, that is definitely true, especially here in America... they'll be on the revenge and will track every move you make...beware of certain types of men or they'll eat you alive just like the animal beasts.... they use deranged tactics , so please do not be conspicuous.... Very well done Tom.....love the rhyming too!

Oh boy, this is so true! snakes, the croc, the ant.....all might hurt you, but they would do that to defend themselves. A human being, however, might hurt you just because he can and he feels like it. Sociopaths are the scariest of them all. Great rhyming in this one, Tom. Lydi**
